Warm meets cool in one of the most naturally flattering colour pairings in the gem world. Oval-cut rhodolite garnets in rich raspberry pink-purple at the top, dropping to generous pear-cut tanzanites in soft, luminous periwinkle blue-violet below. A gradient from rosy warmth to cool, airy blue that is genuinely hard to stop looking at.

Tanzanite is found in only one place on earth: a small mining area near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Geologists estimate the known deposits will be exhausted within a generation, making tanzanite genuinely and increasingly rare. At 4.25 carats across the pair in a pear cut that maximises the stone's natural pleochroism, these are not accent tanzanites. They are the feature. The pear shape gives each drop an elegant, tapered silhouette that swings beautifully from the ear and catches light along every facet edge.

The rhodolite garnets are equally well chosen. Rhodolite sits in the warmer, pinker end of the garnet family and has a natural affinity with the violet tones of tanzanite. At 1.4 carats total in a neat oval cut, they anchor the earring without competing with what hangs below.

There is no opal in this pair, and it does not need any. Two extraordinary stones, a clean silver setting, and nothing in the way.

Featherlight at 3.82 grams. Handmade and bezel set in polished 925 sterling silver.

A note on tanzanite

Tanzanite is one of the world's rarest gemstones, found exclusively in a single mining corridor in northern Tanzania. Current estimates suggest the deposits could be depleted within decades. The 4.25 carats in this pair represent a meaningful quantity of a genuinely finite gem.

Every hand-crafted piece is as unique as the pieces of opal they are created around to create eye-catching, impressive mini works of art. All opal in the Collection are excavated from our family opal mine, Big Red, located in Western Queensland.

The opals and the gemstones are directly sourced in the rough and cut by Ross Chapman, Fellow and Lecturer of the Gemmological Association. He is also the father of Annie, founder of Lurlina. Hence, the jewellery is of the highest quality and offers excellent pricing as there is no middleman.

These are solid, natural opals and will not be affected by water.

Moisturisers and body creams will not damage your opal jewellery, but a build-up of these products may reduce its shine.

Avoid abrasives or hard knocks as this could possibly damage your opal jewellery.

To clean, use a soft cloth or toothbrush with a mild detergent and warm water.
